It’s really not a stretch. The early Beatles were the boy band of the 60’s. They wrote songs about girls, harmonized, and had a massive young female fan base, just like One Direction. The Beatles weren’t a very sophisticated, musically mature band until probably the time Rubber Soul was released. Their song structures were very simple, but popular. One Direction hasn’t created a genre of music like the Beatles, but they have some parallels.

PS: The Beatles are my favorite band of all time, they were the first band I ever listened to. There’s videos of me playing an inflatable guitar and singing along to Please Please Me when I was 4 or 5. I love this band.
